David Sokulsky, PhD
Managing Director / CIO
David has extensive experience across asset allocation, portfolio management, macroeconomic analysis, equity research, trading and execution, fund due diligence and risk management.
Prior to founding Carrara, David was CEO/CIO and portfolio manager of Concentrated Leaders Fund (ASX: CLF), an ASX listed investment company.
David was CIO of Crestone Wealth Management, where he chaired the investment committee and was responsible for asset allocation, global security lists and recommended managed funds. Prior to this, he was Head of Investment Strategy at UBS Wealth Management which became Crestone.
David was a Senior Analyst and Trader at a US-based global macro hedge fund, Denali Asset Management. He was also Vice President at Macquarie Group where he conducted due diligence on global hedge funds and seeded start-up investment managers.
David has a PhD in Applied Finance from RMIT and a First-Class Honours degree in Economics from the University of Newcastle.
Brendan Scarf, CFA
Managing Director / Portfolio Manager
Brendan runs Carrara’s Global Credit portfolio and is on the Board of Directors of Carrara. He has global experience in structured finance, private credit and equity, derivatives, trading and structured investments.
Brendan was most recently Head of Structuring at Deutsche Bank in Sydney where, during his tenure, he oversaw in excess of $6 billion in structured credit, equity and arbitrage transactions.
Prior to joining Deutsche Brendan worked at Macquarie Bank in Sydney, London and New York across a wide variety of structured equity, credit and derivative businesses.
Brendan holds a Bachelor of Commerce and Bachelor of Engineering – Advanced Mathematics (HONS) from the University of Sydney and is a CFA® Charterholder.
Tim Davies
Executive Director / Portfolio Manager
Tim is an accomplished finance professional with extensive experience in financial markets, research and portfolio management.
Tim previously worked as the Director of Research at Holon Global Investments, where he was responsible for building and overseeing the investment team. Over a 3-year period, Tim researched and published papers on a range of topics including EV’s and autonomous driving, the future of data and its storage, Web 3.0 and the metaverse, global digital asset laws and digital assets as an asset class.
Prior to joining Holon, Tim was the Chief Investment Officer, Asia for Caledonia from 2010-2012 where he actively invested in equities throughout the Asian region. Before that, Tim worked at Consolidated Press Holdings / Ellerston Capital for almost a decade, where he was responsible for their China investment portfolio, in the process building out an investment team of 20 analysts in Shanghai, China.
Prior to Consolidated Press Holdings, Tim worked for Goldman Sachs in London and New York as a European Sales Trader from 1998 to 2001.
Tim has an Honors Degree in Science (Physiology) from Monash University in Melbourne.
Ronan Lehane
Executive Director / Private Markets
Ronan is a highly experienced finance professional, with a focus on private markets and socially responsible investing. Via his private investment firm, Capital Collaboration, Ronan has built up a portfolio of unlisted equity investments that deliver both financial and social returns. He continues to play an active role in their success and acts as a strategic advisor to several of these companies to aid their ongoing growth. .
Prior to founding Capital Collaboration, Ronan held a variety of financial services roles for companies in Ireland, the US and Australia. These include Corporate Recovery & Insolvency at PwC in Ireland and Investor Relations at Quintessential Equity, a leading boutique property manager.
Ronan is a qualified Chartered Accountant and has a Joint Honours Degree in Business and Economics from Trinity College Dublin.
John Janik
Chief Operating Officer / Head of Risk
John is a well respected finance professional with a history of managing and operating businesses during high growth phases. Most recently, John worked at Greatland Gold plc in business management and corporate affairs where, during his time, the Company’s market capitalisation grew from US$50m to over US$1.0bn, with staff expanding 5-fold.
Prior to joining Greatland, John was at Macquarie Group for 16 years. Throughout this time, John worked in Banking and Asset Management developing a track record in deal execution, lifting operating efficiency and driving organisational change.
John is a qualified Chartered Accountant and has a Bachelor of Commerce degree from the University of Newcastle.
Lara Hodgson-Grasselier
Investor Relations & Marketing
Lara is responsible for Carrara’s communications and relationship management. She has a strong background in strategic marketing, digital media, data analytics and visual brand identity. Lara’s global experience allows her to be the perfect interface for our clients across the world. Most recently, Lara worked for a London-based family office with responsibilities for its property portfolio, financial administration and market research.
During her studies she worked for a UN Women entrepreneurship venture, as an events curator for a Milanese non-profit gallery and in a variety of social media roles for both corporate and non-profit organisations.
Lara has a masters of Arts (Honours) in International Relations from the University of St Andrews, Scotland.
